Penn State is making it a point to get the top recruits it possibly can for the 2027 class.
The quickest and most sustainable way to turn around a program? Recruit your tail off.
That is exactly what head coach Matt Campbell is doing in his first offseason at Penn State. The Nittany Lions' future was shaky to say it nicely after the departure of James Franklin, but that's a thing of the past.
Head Coach Matt Campbell came in, wasted no time, and just put his nose down and got straight to work, totally changing the roster in both the short term and for the long term.
There were three main priorities that he absolutely crushed. First was to retain the guys who were on the fence about staying at Penn State, second was to get into the portal and get whatever he could get his hands on, and then the third was to recruit the best class for 2027.
It's safe to say he can check all three of those boxes.
For the future Nittany Lions, they are going to be responsible for taking Penn State over the threshold and launching the program into the top tier of the Big Ten and of college football at large.
The 2027 class is filled to the brim with blue ship prospects. As it stands right now, Penn State has the No. 8 recruiting class in the country, one spot behind USC and one spot ahead of Ohio State. Right where they want to see.
The Nittany Lions have landed a total of six "blue chip" recruits for this class. Earning the title of a "blue chip" means that the player is either a four or five-star recruit. In this case, we are using the 247Sports recruit rankings.
The six blue-chip prospects for Penn State are spread all throughout the field. Four-star cornerback Kei’Shjuan Telfair tops the chart as the No. 99-ranked player in the country and will be charged with locking down the top-tier wide receivers in the country.
The No. 100-ranked player is also coming to Happy Valley. This is the four-star defensive tackle Stanley Montgomery, who stands at 6'3 weighing in at 300 pounds. He is the foundational piece that they need on the line of scrimmage.
Then, on the opposite side of the ball, add a blue-chip prospect at each skill position. Two four-star wide receivers, one four-star running back, and one four-star tight end. Each guy has built their career on explosions and scoring touchdowns.

They have yet to snag a five-star prospect, and they truthfully might not. Those guys are rare and hard to come by. Now, if Campbell and the Nittany Lions start winning, look out, that tune will change quickly.
