The Penn State Nittany Lions are predicted to land star 2028 quarterback James Armstrong
Penn State has been a quarterback away for the last 10 years. Every year they are predicted to have a solid offense, a couple of playmakers, a good defense, a good running game, and it all hinges on their quarterback play.
New head coach Matt Campbell is set to make that a thing of the past.
He and his new staff have committed to turning Penn State from the little brother that they have always been to teams such as Ohio State, Oregon, and now Indiana to a team that is competing at the top of the sport.
To get to that point, you need an elite quarterback, and it appears Penn State may have that in its 2028 recruiting class.
On Monday, elite four-star recruit James Armstrong received a 100 percent prediction that he will commit to Penn State.
Armstrong is listed as a four-star prospect and is the 169th overall prospect, the 10th overall quarterback, and the No. 4 player in the state of Pennsylvania.
Standing at 6'3", the south paw tips the scale at 220 pounds, so he has started to grow into his body. Last year, he unofficially threw for 2,232 yards and 21 touchdowns to go along with 799 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground.
Totaled up, he combined for 3,031 yards and 38 touchdowns on 60 percent completion and 5.8 yards per carry.
He is a do-it-all player who, anytime he has the ball in his hands he is in striking distance of making a big play. In today's day and age of college football, that type of quarterback is nearly a requirement, as it is to a luxury.
This is a far cry from what the quarterback position has historically been for the Nittany Lions. This goes all the way back to the days of Christian Hackenberg, Sean Clifford, Drew Allar, and Ethan Grunkmeyer. Each of those guys was more of a pro-style statuesque quarterback who struggled to find consistent success.
Armstrong, if it all comes through and he proves to be a good player, could be a total game-changing player for the Nittany Lions program. He, coupled with the improvement at the skill position, has the Nittany Lions set up for both short- and long-term success.
