SMU women’s basketball returns home Sunday morning, looking to build momentum in ACC play as the Mustangs host Pitt at 11 a.m. inside Moody Coliseum.
With both teams sitting at 1-12 in conference action, the matchup presents a key opportunity for SMU to snap a six-game skid and recapture the spark it showed earlier this season.
The game doubles as a celebration on the Hilltop.
SMU will honor 50 years of women’s basketball, recognizing a program that has produced more than 700 wins, multiple conference championships, seven NCAA Tournament appearances, and dozens of all-conference standouts.
The first 500 fans will also receive an Adia Barnes bobblehead, adding to the festive atmosphere.
On the court, much of the spotlight will fall on sophomore guard Zahra King. King erupted for 40 points in SMU’s 83-76 road win over Pitt earlier this season, shooting 11-of-19 from the field and 7-of-12 from three-point range.
She currently leads the Mustangs with 363 total points and is averaging 14.5 points per game overall, including 16.2 per contest in ACC play.
King is shooting an impressive 44.8 percent from the floor and 39.4 percent from beyond the arc, ranking among the ACC’s most efficient guards.
Forward Anaya Brown has also delivered steady production, averaging 9.3 points and 6.5 rebounds in conference games. Brown has flirted with multiple double-doubles recently and grabbed 11 boards in SMU’s last outing.
Despite battling injuries and limited depth, SMU ranks third in the ACC in steals per game (10.6) and sixth in blocks (4.4), showcasing an aggressive defensive identity under first-year head coach Adia Barnes.
With alumni in attendance and a season sweep of Pitt within reach, Sunday offers the Mustangs a chance to celebrate their history while shaping their present.
