Progressive Insurance is putting its brand directly on the SMU football field in 2026 as part of a major new Learfield college athletics deal.

DALLAS - Progressive Insurance is making a significant move into SMU football, and fans watching the Mustangs in 2026 are going to see the insurance giant in one of the most visible places possible: right on the field.

SMU Athletics partner Mustang Partners and Learfield announced Tuesday that Progressive has joined a large-scale college football sponsorship agreement covering 13 universities.

The deal gives Progressive on-field branding at SMU along with a broader package of game-day marketing assets.

For the Mustangs, it's another example of how quickly the business side of college athletics is changing.

This isn't just a logo tucked into a concourse or buried in a commercial break. Progressive will receive prominent exposure inside the stadium during SMU football games, putting the company directly in front of fans in attendance and viewers watching on television and streaming platforms.

The partnership will also extend beyond the playing surface.

Progressive's SMU presence is expected to include videoboard features, LED signage inside the venue, digital content, social media activations and other promotional elements surrounding Mustang game days.

That kind of inventory has become increasingly valuable as college athletic departments look for new ways to generate revenue and corporate partners search for opportunities that can't simply be skipped like a traditional advertisement.

SMU is an especially intriguing piece of the deal.

The Mustangs have continued to expand their national profile, and college football gives brands access to an unusually loyal audience that follows teams throughout the season, not just during games.

Putting a company's identity on the field creates repeated exposure every time television cameras show live action.

Learfield helped construct the larger Progressive partnership through its corporate partnerships operation, which specializes in connecting national advertisers with college programs and high-visibility sponsorship opportunities.

Progressive's Sean Freeman said the company sees the investment as a way to become part of the college football experience while supporting the schools and student-athletes involved.

For SMU, the bigger takeaway is obvious: the football field itself has become premium advertising real estate.

When the 2026 SMU football season begins, Progressive won't simply be sponsoring the Mustangs from the sidelines. Its brand will quite literally be part of the picture.
