SMU basketball is rebuilding fast after losing its entire starting lineup, with guard and frontcourt help now the biggest priorities in the portal.

SMU basketball enters a critical stretch in the transfer portal with major roster holes to fill and plenty of work left for Coach Andy Enfield and his staff.

After losing its entire 2025-26 starting lineup, SMU is now searching for answers at guard, in the frontcourt and on the wing as the Mustangs try to rebuild a roster that was gutted by graduation and portal movement.

The biggest blow came from experience walking out the door.

Boopie Miller, Jaron Pierre Jr., BJ Edwards and Corey Washington are all gone after combining for 60.8 of SMU’s 84.1 points per game and 14.3 of the team’s 16.9 assists per game last season.

The departure of Samet Yiğitoğlu to Indiana only deepened the challenge, leaving the Mustangs without their full starting five from a year ago.

That puts pressure on the portal, especially at point guard. Jaden Toombs gives SMU a proven returning piece in the frontcourt, while Jermaine O’Neal Jr. could be ready for a larger role after averaging 4.5 points per game as a reserve.

Freshman addition Cameron Lomax, a Frisco Heritage standout and all-area player of the year, adds promise, but he can’t be expected to solve every issue right away.

One portal name to watch is Rowan Brumbaugh, a 6-foot-4 guard who averaged 19.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 36 percent from 3-point range and better than 80 percent at the free-throw line. Omari Witherspoon of Pitt is another intriguing backcourt option with ACC experience.

Inside, Bangot Dak may be the most important target.

The Colorado big man posted 11.5 points per game and could give SMU more mobility and athleticism around the basket. James Nnaji, a seven-footer with Baylor ties, is another developmental option.

With wing help also needed, names like Juke Harris and LeJuan Watts make sense. For SMU, the portal isn’t just about upgrading. It’s about rebuilding nearly everything.
