SMU enters College Football 27 with an 83 overall rating, an elite 87 offense and two 90-plus stars leading one of the ACC’s most dangerous rosters.

SMU football isn’t just dangerous on Saturdays. The Mustangs look like a problem in EA Sports College Football 27, too.

SMU opens the new video game with an 83 overall rating, putting the Mustangs in the same neighborhood as Auburn, Penn State, Houston, Clemson, Louisville and Virginia.

That’s already strong company, but the real flex is on offense. SMU earned an 87 offensive rating, trailing only Miami among ACC teams.

That makes sense when you look at the roster. Of the 67 Mustangs in the game, 17 players were rated 80 overall or better, and two cracked the coveted 90-plus club.

The highest-rated Mustang is right tackle PJ Williams, who checks in at 92 overall.

Williams, a 2025 team captain and All-ACC second-team selection, has allowed only four sacks in 1,171 career pass-blocking snaps. In the game, he carries elite blocking numbers, including 93 run block power and 92 pass block power.

Right guard Addison Nichols isn’t far behind at 91 overall.

The 6-5, 320-pound lineman brings a nasty combination of 96 awareness, 92 strength and 95 pass block finesse. Good luck getting through the right side of SMU’s offensive line.

Quarterback Kevin Jennings lands at 89 overall, making him one of the most exciting dual-threat quarterbacks in the game.

Jennings threw 26 touchdowns in 2025 and gets rewarded with 92 throw on the run and 89 speed. Whether gamers want to attack downfield or break contain, Jennings gives SMU serious cheat-code potential.

Running back Kendrick Raphael, an 87 overall transfer from Cal, adds another weapon after rushing for 943 yards and scoring 14 total touchdowns last season.

He also caught passes well enough to earn 70 catching and 71 short route running, making him more than just a between-the-tackles option.

Wide receiver Yamir Knight brings the juice outside at 85 overall, highlighted by 94 acceleration and 90 speed. He’s not built to truck defenders, but in space, he’s going to be a nightmare.

Defensively, SMU has speed and edge production. Safety Jimmy Wyrick brings 90 speed and 92 acceleration, while pass rusher Marques White arrives from UMass after posting 50 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and five sacks.

Bottom line: SMU’s CFB27 roster is fast, physical and built to score. The Mustangs won’t be some cute sleeper team. They’re a controller-breaking problem.
