SMU is already in the mix for DeMarcus Ware Jr., the 2029 Southlake Carroll prospect and son of Cowboys legend DeMarcus Ware.
SMU football is getting involved early with one of the most recognizable names in North Texas recruiting.
DeMarcus Ware Jr., the son of Dallas Cowboys legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer DeMarcus Ware, has already picked up an offer from SMU as his recruitment begins to build years before his college decision.
The Southlake Carroll standout is part of the 2029 class and is already drawing attention from multiple programs.
That list reportedly includes SMU, Colorado, UTSA and Arkansas State, giving Ware Jr. four early scholarship opportunities.
For the Mustangs, the offer makes plenty of sense. SMU has worked hard to strengthen its Dallas-Fort Worth recruiting footprint, and Ware Jr. is developing at one of the state’s premier high school programs.
Southlake Carroll is no stranger to major college attention, and a young prospect with Ware’s name, athletic background and upside is naturally going to be watched closely.
Ware Jr. has seen time at linebacker and on offense, giving coaches a versatile early evaluation point. He’s listed around 6 feet tall, with several years of physical growth still ahead before he reaches the college level.
The family name obviously creates buzz, but it also brings a serious football standard. DeMarcus Ware became the Cowboys’ all-time sacks leader during nine seasons in Dallas, earned multiple All-Pro honors and later won a Super Bowl before reaching the Hall of Fame.
That doesn’t mean Ware Jr.’s path is already written. Recruiting in the 2029 class is still about projection, development and relationships. But SMU getting in early gives the Mustangs a chance to build trust before the national race gets louder.

Colorado’s offer has drawn attention because Deion Sanders has leaned heavily on NFL ties in Boulder. Still, SMU can sell something powerful, too: staying home, playing in Dallas and helping build the Mustangs’ next era.
For now, Ware Jr. is a name to remember ... and SMU is already making sure it’s part of the conversation.
