SMU freshman Julianne Richter earns ACC Freshman of the Week after a four-point performance and becomes the first Mustang to win a weekly ACC award.
SMU women’s soccer freshman Julianne Richter is already making history in Dallas.
Richter was named ACC Freshman of the Week after delivering a productive two-game stretch that helped the Mustangs extend their unbeaten run to seven matches.
The honor also makes her the first SMU women’s soccer player to earn an ACC weekly award since the program joined the conference.
The freshman forward scored in both of SMU’s matches last week.
Against Texas Tech, Richter delivered the equalizer in the second half to secure a 1-1 draw. Her goal came in the 73rd minute and kept SMU from taking a loss against an unbeaten Red Raiders team.
She followed that with an even bigger performance against Idaho State.
Richter scored once and added two assists in SMU’s 6-0 victory, giving her four total points in the match and helping the Mustangs finish nonconference play with another dominant home result.
The production has become a pattern.
Richter leads SMU with six assists, a total that is tied for the ACC lead and ranks among the best marks nationally. She also has 10 total points, placing her second on the team.
Her work against Idaho State included assists on goals by Brooke Bunton and Jessica Osborne, while Richter also scored her second goal of the season early in the second half.
That type of versatility has quickly made her one of SMU’s most dangerous attacking pieces. She isn’t simply finishing chances. Richter has consistently created opportunities for teammates and has already recorded two multi-assist games.
SMU’s offensive surge has also coincided with the team’s strong early-season form.
The Mustangs are riding a seven-game unbeaten streak and entered conference play with momentum after the convincing win over Idaho State.
Now the challenge gets tougher.
SMU opens ACC competition Friday on the road against Miami in Coral Gables, with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m. CT on ACCNX.
For Richter, conference play will provide another opportunity to show that her fast start wasn’t just an early-season flash.
She’s already produced like one of the ACC’s most impactful freshmen, now she has the award to prove it.
