SMU men’s golf opens at PGA Frisco, hosts Trinity Forest and gets a rare home-state shot at the ACC Championship during a loaded 2026-27 schedule.
DALLAS - SMU men’s golf will spend plenty of time on the road in 2026-27, but the biggest twist on the Mustangs’ new schedule comes much closer to home.
The ACC Men’s Golf Championship is headed to Carrollton, Texas, giving SMU a rare chance to chase a conference title without leaving the state.
The Mustangs announced a 10-event regular-season slate Thursday, featuring four fall tournaments and six spring events.
SMU will waste no time testing itself.
The season opens Sept. 14-16 at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup on the PGA Frisco East Course, followed by a trip to New Mexico for the William H. Tucker Invitational on Sept. 25-26.
Then comes one of the biggest dates on the program’s annual calendar.
SMU will host the 10th Trinity Forest Invitational from Oct. 4-6. The Mustangs have won their home event twice over the previous nine editions and finished runner-up three more times, giving them a strong history on familiar turf.
The fall schedule wraps up Oct. 19-21 at the ACU Intercollegiate.
After the winter break, SMU heads west and stays there for a while.
The Mustangs are scheduled to play four consecutive tournaments in California, beginning with The Prestige on Feb. 15-17. That stretch continues with the Desimone Invitational on March 8-9, the Pauma Valley Invitational on March 15-17 and The Goodwin on March 25-27.
SMU closes the regular season April 13-14 at the Lewis Chitengwa Invitational at Birdwood Golf Course.
Then comes the tournament that jumps off the page.
The ACC Championship will be played April 22-26 at Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, marking the first time the event has been held in Texas.
For SMU, that creates a legitimate opportunity to turn a conference championship week into something close to a home event.
The Mustangs enter the new season looking to build on a year in which Ben Steinmann and Will Sides both qualified for the NCAA Bryan Regional as individuals.
That experience should matter as SMU tries to convert individual postseason success into a stronger team run.
The travel will be heavy. The competition will be demanding.
But if everything breaks right, SMU could be playing its most important golf of the season right in its own backyard.
