SMU makes history with a Texas Capital jersey sponsorship covering all 17 varsity sports, expanding the Mustangs' commercial reach and generating new revenue in Dallas.

DALLAS - SMU Athletics is making another aggressive move in the rapidly changing business of college sports, announcing a groundbreaking partnership that will put the Texas Capital logo on every Mustangs varsity team's uniforms.

The agreement, unveiled Tuesday, makes SMU the first Power Four athletic program in Texas to secure an all-sports jersey patch sponsorship. All 17 varsity programs will begin wearing the Dallas-based financial company's branding this week.

It's another indication that the Mustangs aren't content simply competing in the Atlantic Coast Conference. They're also building a commercial operation designed to compete with college athletics' biggest brands.

The arrangement expands a relationship announced in September, when Texas Capital became the first corporate end-zone sponsor in the history of Gerald J. Ford Stadium.

Now the company's presence will extend from the football field to basketball courts, volleyball matches, soccer fields and every other SMU varsity competition.

Athletic director Damon Evans described the agreement as a reflection of the university's growing ambitions.

"This is a first for a Power Four program in Texas," Evans said, emphasizing the partnership's importance to SMU's future.

For SMU, the move comes at an important time.

College athletic departments are searching for additional revenue as the financial demands of competing at the highest level continue to increase. Corporate partnerships offer another way to generate income while expanding brand recognition.

SMU's emergence as an ACC member has also created opportunities for Dallas businesses seeking exposure well beyond North Texas.

Texas Capital Chairman, President and CEO Rob Holmes called SMU a university that shares his company's ambitions and confidence in the region's future.

Football coach Rhett Lashlee welcomed the investment, describing the relationship as another example of Dallas supporting the Mustangs.

"What Texas Capital and CEO Rob Holmes have done demonstrates their belief in the Mustangs," Lashlee said.

Volleyball coach Sam Erger also praised the agreement, pointing toward the momentum developing throughout the athletic department rather than just its highest-profile programs.

The partnership was arranged through Mustang Partners, SMU Athletics and Learfield, the collegiate sports media and marketing company.

Financial terms weren't disclosed in Tuesday's announcement.

That leaves the exact economic impact unknown, but the commercial significance is clear.

Instead of limiting corporate visibility to stadium signage or one prominent team, SMU is offering a sponsor exposure across its entire athletic department.

For Texas Capital, that means year-round visibility wherever the Mustangs compete.

For SMU, it's another opportunity to turn its growing national profile into financial support.

And with all 17 programs participating, the Mustangs have established a new sponsorship model in Texas Power Four athletics.
