SMU men’s tennis heads to Georgia Tech and Clemson with Trevor Svajda ranked No. 1 nationally as the Mustangs chase momentum in the ACC race.

SMU men’s tennis heads into a pivotal ACC road trip this week with momentum, star power, and a chance to strengthen its postseason resume.

The No. 31 Mustangs will face No. 47 Georgia Tech on Thursday in Atlanta before traveling to No. 34 Clemson on Saturday, giving SMU two more major opportunities against ranked conference opponents.

For SMU men’s tennis, this weekend is about more than just surviving the road. It’s about proving the Mustangs can stack quality wins in the ACC and keep climbing in the ITA rankings as the regular season tightens up.

The spotlight starts with Trevor Svajda, who remains the No. 1 singles player in college tennis. Svajda has now held the top ranking for the fourth time this season and has been sensational throughout the spring, compiling an 18-1 singles record while dropping only six sets in 48 total sets played.

He’s also built one of the strongest résumés in the country with seven ranked wins this spring alone.

Svajda’s rise has been one of the biggest stories in college tennis. He recently earned a wild card into ATP 1000 qualifying at Indian Wells and became the first SMU player since Richey Reneberg in 1999 to win a match at that level.

That kind of form gives the Mustangs a major advantage every time they step on court.

SMU enters the trip after splitting a home weekend in conference play.

The Mustangs fell to No. 18 Notre Dame before bouncing back with a 4-0 sweep of Louisville, a response that showed both resilience and depth. Now they’ll try to carry that into two tricky matchups away from Dallas.

Georgia Tech has won the last meeting between the teams in Atlanta, while Clemson also edged SMU the last time they met. That adds another layer of urgency for a Mustangs team looking to flip recent history.

With Svajda leading the way and the ACC standings tightening, this road swing could be a defining moment for SMU men’s tennis.
