The Mustangs are at 4-1, and Jennings has played his role in getting the team to where they are.

We are five weeks into the college football season, and the SMU Mustangs sit at 4-1 as they enter the bye week.

Having been a little up-and-down in the first five weeks, we have yet to see a true four-quarter performance from Rhett Lashlee's team.

Granted, against Boston College, the team didn't play well, but did something it hadn't done all year, and that was not beat itself with costly turnovers and penalties.

But when a team is on a bye, it is time for self-reflection and to go over what has already transpired, and to pick it apart and look at where players, coaches, etc., can get better.

And for Mustangs QB coach D'Eriq King, he's liked what Jennings has done so far in 2026.

"The first five weeks as far as QBs, I think Kevin's been playing really good," King said. "He's had some really big games passing [the] football, he's been great as a leader, he's done a good job of when he's made mistakes, correcting those in practice and then trying to get better from it.

"So I'm excited to see where he goes and the rest of the quarterback room for the rest of the year."

Jennings has added a few records to his resume in the first five weeks, and his stat line makes for good reading.

He's thrown for 1,588 yards and 14 TDs, with 5 interceptions, while rushing for 69 yards and 2 TDs.

But you can argue that the biggest bugaboo for Jennings has been the turnovers. In five games, having five interceptions isn't great. So that has to be cleaned up.

And we saw what this Mustangs team can do when they don't beat themselves with self-inflicted wounds, and yes, it wasn't a "great" game against Boston College, but they didn't hand the momentum to their opponents.

They made themselves tough to beat.

And when you have a quarterback like Jennings, who can do everything you want in a quarterback, if he can just limit those turnovers, well, this SMU team could go far.
