The SMU women’s tennis team is making serious noise in the ACC, and this week the Mustangs completely took over the conference spotlight.
Caroline McGinley and Amelie Van Impe powered SMU to a sweep of the ACC weekly awards, highlighting just how dominant the duo has been on the court.
McGinley earned ACC Player of the Week honors, while Van Impe continued her remarkable run by collecting her third straight ACC Freshman of the Week award.
The pair also grabbed ACC Doubles Team of the Week, giving SMU all three conference honors in the same week.
It’s a rare accomplishment and another sign that SMU’s move into the ACC has not slowed the program’s momentum.
McGinley delivered a flawless weekend during SMU’s road swing through the Northeast. The junior went 4-0 across singles and doubles, including two clutch singles wins that sealed victories for the Mustangs.
She handled Boston College’s Natalie Eordekian in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, before battling past Syracuse’s Nelly Knezkova 6-4, 7-5 in another impressive performance.
While McGinley controlled singles play, the Mustangs’ doubles dominance came from her partnership with Van Impe.
The pair improved to a perfect 10-0 record as a doubles team this season, including a major victory over No. 57-ranked duo Anastasia Sysoeva and Nelly Knezkova from Syracuse.
That win marked their fourth victory against a ranked doubles team, proving they’re one of the most dangerous tandems in college tennis.
Van Impe has been just as dominant in singles competition. The freshman star secured her fifth straight singles victory by dismantling Boston College’s Seren Agar 6-1, 6-0.
She was on the verge of another win against Syracuse before the match was halted once SMU clinched the team victory.
Now ranked No. 32 nationally, the Mustangs sit at 9-4 overall and 3-3 in ACC play. With momentum building, SMU returns home to face Wake Forest on March 13 at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex, where the red-hot Mustangs will look to keep their winning surge rolling.
