SMU to Face Oklahoma in 2027, LSU in 2029 at AT&T Stadium cover image

SMU reignites historic rivalry with Oklahoma and LSU at AT&T Stadium, signaling a bold return to national prominence.

SMU Football is bringing big-time college football back to an iconic stage.

Mustang Partners announced that the Mustangs will host Oklahoma on Sept. 11, 2027, and LSU on Sept. 1, 2029, at AT&T Stadium - the first time in more than four decades that SMU will play at the home of the Dallas Cowboys.

For a program working to reestablish itself as a national brand in the ACC, these matchups represent more than just marquee nonconference games. They signal intent.

SMU has deep roots at the Cowboys’ former home, Texas Stadium, where the Mustangs played select games beginning in 1972 before moving all home contests there from 1979 to 1986.

That stretch coincided with one of the most successful eras in program history, including four 10-win seasons and seven winning campaigns in eight years.

Now, the Mustangs return to the Metroplex’s biggest stage with two of college football’s most recognizable brands.

Athletic director Damon Evans called the games a reflection of both tradition and ambition, tying the move to SMU’s vision for long-term growth in the ACC.

The neutral-site environment offers significant revenue potential, national television exposure, and expanded brand reach - all key components in today’s college football landscape.

Head coach Rhett Lashlee echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the importance of playing national opponents in iconic venues.

As Dallas’s only FBS program, SMU has the opportunity to draw fans from across the Metroplex while giving its players a taste of an NFL atmosphere inside one of the world’s premier sports venues.

Since opening in 2009, AT&T Stadium has hosted College Football Playoff games, conference championships, NFL showdowns, major concerts, and international soccer events.

In 2027 and 2029, it will host the Mustangs - and two massive statements about where SMU Football is headed.
