SMU volleyball added international size and experience with 6-3 opposite Bojana Ambulija joining the Mustangs’ 2026 roster.

SMU volleyball just added a serious international punch to its 2026 roster.

Head coach Sam Erger announced the addition of Bojana Ambulija, a 6-3 opposite from Trebinje, Bosnia and Herzegovina, giving the Mustangs a long, physical attacker with high-level European experience and four years of eligibility ahead of her.

That’s not just a roster addition. That’s a swing with upside.

Ambulija’s volleyball path has already taken her through some demanding international environments before she even arrives in Dallas. She began competing internationally at just 16 years old, joining VakifBank in Turkey at the U18 level.

That early exposure matters, especially for a player stepping into the college game with experience against mature, structured competition.

From there, Ambulija moved into club volleyball in Hungary with Fatum Nyiregyhaza Roplabda, a top-tier club where she helped her team finish third in the Hungarian Cup during the 2022-23 season.

That kind of background should give SMU a player who isn’t walking into pressure for the first time.

Over the past two years, Ambulija continued sharpening her game in Croatia’s top league, playing for OK Nebo and most recently OK Dinamo.

With OK Dinamo, she competed in major European events, including a CEV Champions League qualifier, the CEV Cup and the MEVZA League.

For SMU, the appeal is obvious. Ambulija brings size, international seasoning and the kind of attacking profile that can change the look of a front row quickly.

She gives the Mustangs a physical presence on the right side and another option as Erger continues to build the program’s future.

The 2026 season is still down the road, but this commitment gives SMU volleyball fans a name to remember.

Bojana Ambulija isn’t just coming to Dallas. She’s arriving with a resume.
