SMU women’s golf added Houston transfer Maelynn Kim, a proven Big 12 performer with 88 college rounds and a championship resume.
DALLAS - SMU women’s golf just added a serious piece to its roster, and this one comes with proof already attached.
Head coach Lauren Mason has landed Houston transfer Maelynn Kim, giving the Mustangs an experienced, battle-tested golfer who’s already shown she can handle big-time college competition.
Kim, a Katy, Texas, native, spent the past three seasons at Houston and didn’t exactly sit in the background.
She played in 30 events for the Cougars, piling up 88 competitive rounds while developing into one of Houston’s most reliable scorers.
Now she’s headed to Dallas, and SMU isn’t getting a project. It’s getting a player who has already produced.
Kim’s junior season was the kind that grabs attention across the league.
She earned All-Big 12 Second Team honors and was named to the 2026 Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team.
She also finished the year with three top-three finishes and four top-four results, showing she wasn’t just hanging around leaderboards. She was attacking them.
The consistency was just as important as the peaks. Kim tied for the team lead with 19 rounds of par or better and posted a 72.53 scoring average, giving SMU a transfer who can immediately raise the floor of the lineup.
Her amateur resume adds even more weight to the move. In 2025, Kim won the Western and Southern Amateur Championship and also qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship, two markers that speak to her game outside the college schedule.
For Mason and the Mustangs, this is the kind of addition that can change expectations quickly. Kim brings experience, Texas roots, postseason seasoning and enough scoring power to make an immediate impact.
