Lashlee leapt to the defense of his quarterback amid his turnover streak, and Jennings is nothing but thankful for his coach being in his corner.

SMU Mustangs quarterback Kevin Jennings has always been the center of attention, but his turnover issues were plaguing him.

Three in his first two games, the turnovers were starting to become a big problem, and such was the focus on that, people often forgot about the amazing plays Kevin did outside of those turnovers.

Something that head coach Rhett Lashlee went on a rant about last week, praising Kevin for what he did really well, instead of dragging him down for his mistakes, and he urged the media to do the same.

It is now three games in a row that Jennings hasn't thrown an interception, as the Mustangs have seemed to have discovered the formula for winning football games.

And for Jennings, when asked about Lashlee's comments on him, he had nothing but praise and also hinted at how the offense is trying to approach the rest of the season.

"Yeah, it's amazing, just have a coach like that, install the confidence you and build a confidence in you within the team, it's really amazing," Jennings said. "I think over the past few weeks, we've been playing really good football on offense and defense and just having the ball with no turnovers.

"So, I think that's our mission right there to keep it going. We see what we can do. We don't turn the ball over, our defense steps for us big time, no matter how much points we put on the board. So just to be able to keep the takeaways down and just go out there and play ball freely."

That is the big thing. No turnovers.

With the defense now locking in and becoming a stout unit, the offense is now taking care of the ball and not putting them in a position where they have to defend short fields.

Complementary football folks, it's happening for the Mustangs.

Now we know that Jennings won't go the rest of the year without an interception, that is just part and parcel of football, but if he can limit them, as he has done over the past three weeks, this SMU team is going to be tough to beat.

It started out a little wobbly with three interceptions in the first two games, but Jennings has seemingly settled and now isn't the walking highlight reel he once was, but a more refined quarterback playing within himself.

And it is a big reason why the Mustangs are now rolling to the tune of a 6-1 record.
