The run game was effective against Louisville, and Jennings knows how beneficial it is to get it rolling again.
The SMU Mustangs might have lost their first game of the season to Louisville, but in the process, might have found a formula to lean on for the rest of the year.
Kendrick Raphael was a monster running the football.
He totaled 197 yards and 3 TDs, as he averaged 8.3 yards per carry, and the Cardinals had no answer in how to stop him.
Unfortunately, the Mustangs beat themselves with turnovers, penalties, and two failed fourth-down calls.
But for quarterback Kevin Jennings, he loves what the run game did against the Cardinals.
"Yeah, run game was great, just been able to put the ball in Kendrick's hands, anyone, Derrick McFall, put the ball in their hands, let them make plays, it's amazing," Jennings said. "Offensive line doing a great job this whole year just opening for them guys and just been hitting it and taking what the defense gives us."
But as we know, the run game can't be the Mustangs' only big weapon; the passing game has to be involved as well.
For Jennings, he's thrown for 989 yards, 9 TDs, and four interceptions in three games, averaging a career-best 11.4 yards per attempt.
Yes, the turnovers aren't good and have been a big storyline for Jennings, who has 17 interceptions in 16 games since the start of last season, but how has he thought the passing game looked in the opening three weeks?
"Yeah, I think it's been pretty good," Jennings added. "Definitely some stuff we need to clean up, but overall it's been pretty good first few games. We're adjusting it at practice, just getting better each and every day at it. But it's been really good so far."
The Mustangs will no doubt be favorites against Missouri, and with the run game exploding last week, and the passing game, while good, still needing to be smoothed out, SMU should be taking care of business here.
