The Mustangs will finally be in action on the road against Florida State.
The SMU Mustangs are on the doorstep of starting their season, as they go on the road to face Florida State.
In what looms as a monster game right out of the gate, the Mustangs will face an incredibly hostile environment as over 60,000 fans pack Doak S. Campbell Stadium.
For the Mustangs, unlike the Seminoles, they haven't played a game yet, so there are a lot of unknowns about Rhett Lashlee's team, and even he admitted that.
You never know what you are going to get, but most know the Mustangs have the talent to walk into Tallahassee and walk out with a Week 1 win.
Having been through a long offseason going against teammates, this will be the first time in what no doubt feels like forever for the Mustangs that they get to go against real competition.
And for quarterback Kevin Jennings, he's just ready to go play football with his guys.
"It feels good, a lot of excitement leading to this week," Jennings said. "Super excited to get out there, play a game with my teammates. We've been waiting forever. So, super excited to get out there and go play a game with those guys."
One aspect of the game is the mental approach SMU will have.
Having not played together in a proper football game, plus with new players, and different wrinkles in the scheme, there are a lot of unknowns.
And that means nerves and jitters pre-game.
But how does Jennings deal with that?
"I don't ever think you can avoid it," he added. "I think it's after first play, then everything's out ready to go. So I think just getting that first completion or first long run or whatnot out there and as a game go by, all that's out the window, you just playing ball."
The Mustangs are seen by many as one of the teams to beat in the ACC, and taking care of Florida State is something many expect SMU to do.
There's excitement, but also nerves, because no one, not even the players, truly know what to expect in Week 1.
