Pittman transferred from Florida State and is now looking to make his mark on Rhett Lashlee's offense.

New SMU tight end Randy Pittman is enjoying life as a Mustang under Rhett Lashlee.

Transferring from Florida State, where he posted 208 yards from 23 receptions last year while also having 37 rushing yards on seven attempts, Pittman comes to SMU looking to make a name for himself.

Likely TE2 behind Theo Melin Ohrstrom, Pittman is going to have to be ready when his name is called, as the Mustangs will no doubt air the football out a lot with Kevin Jennings at quarterback.

But for Pittman to be able to do that, he's got to build chemistry with the offense, especially Jennings, so that when it comes time to do it in a game, there is confidence to look his way.

But how as Randy found camp so far with the regular season edging closer?

"I think fall camp has been great," Pittman said. "Just having two quarterbacks that's elusive, both lead, both make plays with their legs, that are real leaders that can take control of the team.

"It's been real being around guys and a team that's really bought in and that's investing the time to win to do what it takes to be a great team."

We know the Mustangs are seen as one of the teams to beat in the ACC, and while Pittman might not get a lot of targets and catches in Lashlee's system, he will be used.

But that doesn't mean just in the passing game either.

Pittman could be used on special teams, and in the run game.

However, where he feels his game has taken the biggest leap in camp this offseason is in what he does without the football.

"I would say just playing without the ball, honestly," Pittman added. "Just being a guy that could be a utility player, that could be placed anywhere, and just trying to help the team as much as I can."

So, it has been a good offseason for the tight end, and with the regular season edging ever closer, time will tell if Pittman's work is enough to warrant increased snaps for the Mustangs.
