Kevin Jennings shattered program records with a historic four-touchdown performance, cementing his legacy as the Mustangs’ all-time yardage leader while sparking a crucial bounce-back victory for SMU.
The SMU Mustangs got back on the winners list with a 34-24 win over Missouri State, as quarterback Kevin Jennings added more accolades to his resume.
Jennings, who would finish his day going 33-of-39 for 464 yards, 3 TDs, and one interception, while also rushing for a touchdown to etch his name into the SMU history books.
He is now the all-time leader in yardage and total touchdowns scored, as his place among the best to ever play for the program is starting to firm.
But as we know, Jennings cares more about wins than the accolades he's currently getting, and for the Mustangs, it was crucial that they got back on the winner's list after the loss to Louisville.
While it took the Mustangs a quarter to get going, as they were held scoreless in the opening quarter, they clicked into gear after that.
As for head coach Rhett Lashlee, he was full of praise for what Jennings did on the field.
"I thought Kevin Jennings was absolutely fantastic, 33 of 39, 464 yards, I think they told me he completed 21 straight at one time, which is the second most in the history of the ACC," Lashlee said. "Broke the career all-time yardage record, total touchdowns scored record. I mean, he was awesome. He made us go."
And that has been a common theme. Jennings makes this team go.
In truth, that is what you want from your quarterback, and the Mustangs have one of the best in the ACC.
The only issue is the turnovers; right now, Jennings has had five interceptions over four games. That has to be tidied up.
But there is no denying how good Jennings is and we saw that against Missouri, and the Mustangs will lean on him heavily to get them to where they want to go in 2026.
As for the records, I imagine Jennings will make it incredibly difficult for anyone to touch them for some time.
