Mustangs dominate Arizona 4-0, showcasing early-season dominance and new leadership. Doubles power fuels singles sweep for third decisive win.

The SMU Mustangs continued their strong early-season form Saturday morning, delivering a convincing 4-0 sweep of the Arizona Wildcats at home.

The victory pushed SMU to 3-1 on the season and marked another encouraging step in the first year under head coach Kelcy McKenna.

From the opening serve, the Mustangs were firmly in control. SMU wasted little time securing the doubles point, dominating all three courts.

The pairing of Caroline McGinley and Amelie Van Impe set the tone with a commanding 6-1 win, quickly putting pressure on Arizona. Moments later, Natalie Stasny and Sophie Llewellyn sealed the doubles point with a 6-3 victory on court three.

The Stasny-Llewellyn duo improved to a perfect 3-0 together this spring, continuing to establish themselves as a reliable combination.

That momentum carried seamlessly into singles play.

Ranked No. 46 nationally, Sophie Llewellyn was clinical on court three, overwhelming her opponent in a 6-0, 6-2 win. Llewellyn’s aggressive shot-making and consistency left little doubt, and her performance gave SMU a 2-0 lead with minimal time elapsed.

Amelie Van Impe followed with another confident showing, earning her first singles win as a Mustang.

Van Impe closed out a 6-4, 6-2 victory with an emphatic ace, pushing SMU ahead 3-0 and placing the match firmly out of reach.

The clincher came courtesy of Gina Feistel, who controlled court one in a 6-3, 6-1 win. Like Van Impe, Feistel also recorded her first singles victory in an SMU uniform, highlighting the growing depth of the Mustangs’ lineup.

While several matches were left unfinished, the outcome was already decided thanks to SMU’s efficiency and balance across the courts.

The Mustangs showed strength in both doubles chemistry and singles execution, a combination that has fueled their early-season success.

The schedule won’t slow down for long. SMU now turns its attention to a road test against the Baylor Bears, with a Sunday matchup in Waco looming.

That contest will provide another measuring stick as the Mustangs continue building momentum and confidence under new leadership.

With key contributors like Llewellyn, Stasny, Van Impe, and Feistel stepping up at the right moments, SMU women’s tennis is quickly showing it has the pieces to be a tough out this season.
