This game was a little more open-ended, but Stanford still came out well ahead.

Coming out of the last match against No. 17 UCLA, we noted that Stanford's defense has been tremendous this season, limiting opponents' shot attempts. On Sunday, the Cardinal allowed the most shots (and shots on goal) of the season, as Cal State Fullerton took aim 11 times and put four of those tries on net.

Stanford also erupted for seven goals in yet another clean-sheet victory, 7-0, continuing their scoreless streak to begin the season. The Cardinal have outscored their opponents 19-0 through five games, including two shutout wins over ranked opponents.

This is Stanford's first time with a clean sheet in each of its first five matches since 2014, recording shutouts in its first nine games.

On the year, Stanford has out-shot its opponents 20 to 5.2 on average, including Sunday's 32-shot performance in a more wide open contest that allowed for those opportunities.

The Cardinal were led by seven different goal scorers over the weekend, which is crucial for two reasons. The first is that the entire team is coming together to bury shots in the back of the net — a feat that was dominated by Jasmine Aikey (21 goals) and Andrea Kitahata (17 goals) last season.

This dispersed method of scoring is also important with the Cardinal down six key members of the roster during the U-20 Women's World Cup that kicks off in September. Stanford is going to need those contributions to continue over the next four weeks in order to maintain their No. 1 ranking.

Junior transfer Bella Winn notched her third goal in as many games on Sunday, while Brooke Holden scored on a penalty kick in the 82nd minute to put Stanford up 5-0. The Cardinal added goals from Peyton Marinos (89th) and Erica Grilione (90th).

While the Cardinal notched seven goals on Sunday, team leader Charlotte Kohler was one of the players not to find the back of the net, instead earning two assists. She still leads Stanford in goals scored with four, but Holden and Winn are right behind her with three apiece.

Sadie Leal-Schuman added her first goal of the season in the 30th minute and an assist in the 69th. She's now fourth in the program in points with six, behind Kohler (12), Winn (8), and Holden (7).

"Sadie is a very composed player," head coach Paul Ratcliffe said after the game. "Great I.Q. for the game. Very technical. She brings a lot of composure to our midfield that's really necessary."

For Ella Emri, Leal-Schuman, and Marinos, it was each woman's first career goal.

Stanford plays again at home against USC on Thursday night. The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. PST and will air on ACC Network.
