The Cardinal will be leaning on three experienced players heading into this weekend's matchup with Wake Forest.

Stanford football is hitting the road for a big game against Wake Forest, where a win not only gets the program back over .500 but sets it up nicely for a big game against Notre Dame the following week.

But before the team travels to Winston-Salem, the captains for the game have been revealed. The Cardinal opted to roll with some experience to lead them through this tough game.

Jay Green is the defensive captain this week, one of the program's most seasoned veterans. In his fifth season and third at Stanford, he is a focal point for the defensive back room this season and has played well through the first four games. Green has 20 total tackles and has shown his ability to fly around and make a play.

Before joining Stanford, he spent two seasons at Washington, where he was a member of the Huskies team that made it to the national title game in 2023. His experience on a winning program and his experience in high-leverage moments make him the perfect captain against a strong Wake Forest team.

Jordan Onovughe is the captain of the offense for this week. In his second season at Stanford, he has earned a bigger role on the offense, starting all four games thus far and already catching a career high of 9 passes for 91 yards. Onovughe might have limited experience, but he is a big part of a deep wide receiver room for the Cardinal in 2026.

Onovughe spent the first two seasons of his college career at Colorado, where he primarily played special teams. Before his college career, he played high school football at Mater Dei High School, where, in his senior year, he burst onto the scene with 51 catches for 576 yards and four touchdowns.

Champ Hampton is serving as the special teams captain for this week, and he has been at Stanford since 2023.

Hampton is in a crowded running back room and has gotten less of a chance to earn a role on offense, but has shined on special teams. For his career, he has 17 carries for 55 yards and has run the ball just three times for 15 yards this season.

Hampton began his college career as a two-sport athlete, playing on Stanford's baseball team as a freshman and batting .286. Playing high school sports at The Baylor School in Tennessee, he registered 45 rushing touchdowns and 3,525 yards combined between his junior and senior seasons and was rated as a three-star recruit prior to arriving on The Farm.

Hampton also received an offer from Austin Peay to play football, but he ultimately chose Stanford.

The Stanford captains for this week will have a very important task of keeping the team locked in and ready to go despite an early body-clock game at 9 a.m.

The result of this game will have a big impact on the trajectory of the season. In order to win, the entire roster will have to play fast and with purpose. Stanford winning would give it even more momentum for its game against Notre Dame, while a loss would put it in a potential 2-4 hole.
