Stanford's O-line Will Be the Key to the O-ffense

While all focus at the beginning of the season will be on new transfer QB Davis Warren from Michigan under center, Micah Ford carrying the football, and a slew of talented receivers that lack experience, the one group that Stanford will need to excel in order to make each of those other groups succeed is the offensive line.  

Injuries have certainly played a role in the group's underperformance the past couple of seasons, but this year they'll be depended upon to open holes for Ford and give Warren enough time to go through his progressions in the passing game.

One addition that could play an underrated role is another transfer Aidan Kilstrom. The redshirt senior is coming to The Farm by way of Harvard where he has made 22 starts and played in 26 games the past three seasons. 

He graded out well as the center of the squad, with a 72.7 run blocking score along with a 72.9 pass blocking score. 

Guard Nick Fattig was a standout pass blocker last season with an 85.2 score, but he also only played in three games, getting 126 offensive snaps under his belt with the Cardinal. 

Tackle Niki Prongos was another good pass blocker for Stanford with a score of 75.2, but those are the only two players that may challenge Kilstrom for a role on the team. Of course, Kilstrom has played center, where Fisher Anderson has been the regular for the past four seasons, including starting 10 games last year. 

The table above illustrates some of those points and shows how much of an issue the offensive line was last season in both the passing and running game. For Warren and the rest of the offense to thrive, the 2026 group needs to perform better. 

It's also worth noting that the grades from last year aren't exactly going to carry over to this season. The Cardinal have a new coaching staff on board, with new schemes, new ideas, and new ways to maximize the talent on the roster. They're plenty aware of the line's struggles, and could be looking for ways to get around that.

One that we suggested recently, based on what Ford said at ACC Media Day, is to involve the running backs in the passing game more often. Ford said he was planning to catch more passes in 2026, which would require less blocking time from the line.

When it comes down to blocking, however, Kilstrom could end up being a name to keep an eye on.
