The Orange now prep for next week's ACC tournament and a hopeful spot in the NCAA Tournament.
In their regular season finale, the No. 5 Syracuse Orange men's lacrosse team lost on the road to the No. 1 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 16-11
The Orange were led the program's career all-time leading scorer Joey Spallina, who scored three goals and notched one assist.
What you need to know
-Early in the first half, Spallina recorded a hat trick and gave the Orange a 8-7 lead over the Fighting Irish.
-The Orange made it a one goal with less than 14 minutes play but could not find a goal for the rest of the matchup. Notre Dame scored the final four goals of the game. Syracuse only scored one total goal in the entire fourth quarter.
Fans frustrated by television broadcast
Syracuse fans took to social media to voice their displeasure over the quality of the broadcast between two top five teams in the country.
Bee See wrote "What a JOKE! #1 Notre Dame vs #5 Syracuse lacrosse and it’s on ACC Network Extra with no audio of the action from the field and an announcer who sounds like he’s not there in person."
Syracuse reporter Brent Axe pointed out that while the game was being played in South Bend, Ind., some of the production team was being used to broadcast Notre Dame football's spring football game. Axe wrote on X:
"Should be noted that the Notre Dame spring game is today so Peacock is using the control rooms and other broadcast resources on campus. Hence, the scaled-down operation."
ACC Tournament draw
With the loss, Syracuse will not win a share of the regular season conference title. After Duke's win over North Carolina, tie-breakers will determine the seeding for the event.
The ACC tournament semifinals are set for May 1 and the finals will take place on May 3.
NCAA Tournament projections
The Orange will enter the ACC tournament next Saturday at 10-4 overall and are expected to be selected for the NCAA Tournament.
Eighteen teams will be selected to compete in this year's version of the event. It's possible that if Syracuse wins the ACC tournament, they could be the number one or two seed in the NCAA tournament.
Tournament action begins on May 9. The title game is always on Memorial Day.
Also on campus this weekend
-The Syracuse women's lacrosse team lost in the ACC tournament to the top-ranked North Carolina 19-9. The Orange will now wait for their NCAA tournament draw. The women's tournament field will be announced on May 3 with the action set to begin on May 7.
