The Orange are 2-4 on the season and 0-4 within conference play.

Each week throughout the college football regular season, SyracuseRoundtable will bring you the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) power rankings.

The rankings will help give a clearer picture as to how the top teams in the conference stack up against one another. In December, the top two teams will compete in Charlotte, N.C., not for just the conference title, but a berth in the College Football Playoff.

We almost had a massive shake up on the top spot this week, but Miami held served.

Plus, this week we try to pinpoint when exactly Syracuse can snap its 11-game conference losing streak.

To the rankings!

No. 1 Miami

The Hurricanes barely kept their undefeated season alive after with a thrilling victory over rival Florida State, 43-35. The interesting question now for the Hurricanes moving forward is... what if they do if they suffer one conference loss? Would we still view them as the conference's best team? Miami will play Notre Dame in a non-league game in November. Even with a loss, Miami may hold on to the top spot all season because of the overall talent on the roster and quality of victories over ACC foes.

No. 2 SMU

Although tested early on, the Mustangs were able to defeat Virginia this past weekend, 23-13. SMU enters this weekend's matchup at home against California as a heavy favorite and will then take on Syracuse in Central New York on Halloween. The Mustangs' path to the ACC title gets much more difficult in November.

No. 3 Wake Forest

The Demon Deacons continue to be one of the most surprising teams, not just in the ACC, but in the entire country. Wake's lone loss came to Miami earlier this season. The Demon Deacons are nationally ranked (17) in the latest AP Top 25 poll. Wake plays Virginia this week and will likely be favorited in each of their games going forward until a Nov. 14 game against SMU.

No. 4 Clemson

Clemson won the ACC conference championship in 2024 and they are in position to get back to the game this December. SMU or Wake Forest are guaranteed to lose on Nov. 14 as the two teams square off. If the winner, let's say SMU, beats Wake Forest but loses to Syracuse, SMU and Wake would both then have two conference losses.

The Tigers could benefit and slide into the title game with just one loss. Clemson is likely to be favored in its remaining ACC games.

No. 5 Virginia

This was a razor thin decision between Louisville, Virginia and North Carolina. UNC defeated its rival Duke, while Louisville needed a double-digit comeback to beat Syracuse and Virginia could not finish the job against SMU. Plus, Florida State could have found its way back into the top five if it defeated Miami. The conference's fifth-best team in our rankings is likely to change next week.

Best of the rest

No. 6 Louisville

No. 7 North Carolina

No. 8 Florida State

No. 9 Virginia Tech

No. 10 Georgia Tech

No. 11  Pittsburgh

No. 12 Duke

No. 13 Boston College

No. 14 California

No. 15 Stanford

No. 16 North Carolina State

No. 17 Syracuse

The likelihood of Syracuse football ending its ACC losing streak is getting slimmer and slimmer as the weeks go bye. The most likely win seemed to be Boston College toward the end of the season, but the Eagles defeated Pittsburgh on Saturday to move to 3-3.

The rest of the ACC slate includes games against North Carolina, SMU, Clemson and NC State. The Orange's most likely win comes at home against NC State in November. However, with the quarterback position still unclear, it seems more likely Syracuse will finish at the bottom of the rankings in late November.
