Syracuse fans are hoping to see Tommy DeVito on the field again.
The Week 2 NFL slate concluded on Monday night with a 28-6 win for the Los Angeles Rams over the New York Giants.
The big news of the night came in the first quarter when Giants quarterback Jaxon Dart left the game with a knee injury, one that is ultimately going to sideline him for the rest of the season.
Veteran quarterback Jameis Winston stepped in to replace Dart, but struggled in relief duty, leaving some fans to clamor for the return of former Syracuse Orange football standout Tommy DeVito to New York.
DeVito is currently playing for the New England Patriots, serving as a backup to quarterback Drake Maye.
The Tommy Devito File
The 27-year-old DeVito spent four seasons (2018-21) at Syracuse, then used the extra season granted by the NCAA following the COVID-19 pandemic to play at Illinois (2022).
While at Syracuse, DeVito threw for 3,866 yards with 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. In his lone season at Illinois, he completed a Big Ten-leading 69.6% of his passes for 2,650 yards and 13 touchdowns with four interceptions.
Following his final season in college, DeVito went undrafted and signed with the Giants as an unrestricted free agent.
DeVito gained popularity among Giants fans during his time in the organization. Devito's ties to the New Jersey area (Don Bosco Prep, his former high school) and his nickname "Tommy Cutlets" proved to be a popular way for fans to embrace his style of play.
DeVito's most recent start came Nov. 24, 2024 in a 30-7 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. DeVito was claimed off waivers by the New England Patriots before the start of the 2025 season.

Would the Patriots actually trade him?
Sure, they could, considering Maye is the reigning MVP runner-up and will have the starting job as long as he's healthy. However, there's no guarantee of health in the NFL. We've already seen multiple teams (Seahawks, Giants, Bears, Vikings, Falcons) have to turn to their backup quarterbacks at some point already through two weeks.
What's next for Devito's former school?
Syracuse is on a bye week for the weekend of Sept. 27 and will not play in a game again until Oct. 3 when they take on the UConn Huskies. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. ET in East Hartford, CT.
UConn is 2-1 and will play Miami (Ohio) this Saturday.
