Both teams were in action on Saturday, opening up to different results.

The Syracuse football team opened up its season Saturday against the FCS New Hampshire Wildcats at the JMA Wireless Dome, but they won't have much time to celebrate a season-opening victory, as the task gets much more difficult in Week 2.

The Orange will open up Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play against California, also at home. And the oddsmakers have already released their early thoughts on the pivotal matchup.

Here's what you need to know, six days out from gameday.

How did Syracuse perform in Week 1?

The Orange destroyed New Hampshire 66-3. The margin of victory is the largest in a home-opening win in nearly a century for Syracuse. They beat Hobart 77-0 in 1929. It's the biggest win ever for any home opener at the JMA Wireless Dome.

The 66 total points scored is a massive output for the Orange. Last season, playing without quarterback Steve Angeli, who was out with injury, SU posted 68 points combined in the final six games of the season. They lost all eight games that Angeli didn't play in 2025, finishing 3-9.

The performance should serve as an encouraging sign for the rest of the season. Angeli was back and leading the offense, throwing for three touchdowns.

And how about Cal?

The Golden Bears lost in the team's opening game of the season 45-24. In a matchup between two former Pac-12 schools, the Golden Bears could not keep up with the balanced attack of the UCLA Bruins. The Bruins won the game 45-24 to put Cal at 0-1.

What are the opening lines for Saturday's game?

As of Sunday morning, the opening lines on DraftKings and FanDuel have California listed as a 1.5-point favorite over the Orange. Of course, there is time for that line to change, and it likely will throughout the week.

Why would the line change before Saturday?

A variety of reasons could result in a line shift. Most sports books shift a line as the result of a either new information involving a game, or a flow of money being wagered on the game.

For instance, players returning from injury, or players who are now injured, could shift a line. Furthermore, if too much money comes in on one side, then that will cause a shift as well.

What's next for Syracuse football?

Saturday's game marks the first ACC game for both schools. Kickoff is set for Saturday 3:30 p.m. ET inside the JMA Wireless Dome.

SyracuseRoundtable will have coverage all day long from the JMA Wireless Dome.
