Buddy Boeheim played for the SU alumni team this offseason, but he's getting another chance with an NBA franchise.

Sunday late PM: In a seemingly procedural move, the Thunder have waived Boeheim, but he will report to the G-League.

Saturday early PM: Congratulations are in order for former Syracuse Orange men's basketball standout Buddy Boeheim, who has signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to Keith Smith of Spotrac. Exhibit 10 contracts are extremely complex, but the bottom line is this: Boeheim could see time in the NBA and he could see time with the Thunder's G-League affiliate.

The son of legendary coach Jim Boeheim, Buddy spent all four of his collegiate years in Central New York (2018-2022). He played in 121 career games, starting 94 of them. He played a whopping 38 minutes a game during his final season. A very good three-point shooter, he averaged 14.6 ppg for his career. His 19.2 ppg as a senior led the Atlantic Coast Conference, as did his 88.4 percent free-throw percentage.

He was an All-ACC selection in that season as well and he helped lead SU to the NCAA Tournament twice. They haven't been back since he was a senior and the team advanced to the Sweet 16 (2020-21).

He's played in parts of three NBA seasons with the Detroit Pistons and Thunder, appearing in four games for OKC last year.

Since he was not on an NBA roster this summer, Boeheim was free to represent the 'Boeheim's Army' alumni team at the annual 'TBT.'

The Syracuse group got to the semifinals of the alumni bracket, losing to Kentucky's alumni team in that round. The Orange did defeat the alumni group from Seton Hall in the first round.

Does Boeheim have a chance in the NBA?

He's still just 26 years old, so there's certainly a chance, and since the Thunder already know him, that can only be a good thing. However, it's hard to make it back to a roster from an Exhibit 10 deal. His best chance is to get his deal converted to a two-way deal, but that's a whole other process.

Up next for the current Orange

Syracuse will play its second exhibition game of the season on Sunday afternoon against Siena (2 p.m. ET). The game will take place at the MVP Arena in Albany and the Saints will honor last season's MAAC championship team before the game by raising the banner and having a ring ceremony.

Several members of the Syracuse coaching staff and roster were part of that Siena team and will be honored as well. They came over with new head coach Gerry McNamara.

Syracuse lost its exhibition opener 72-52 against UConn.
