The Orange defensive back will show off his skills for pro teams later this spring, including the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles.

Former Syracuse defensive back Duce Chestnut has been invited to multiple NFL Pro Days later this spring, according to a report originating from Sports Illustrated. Chestnut will attend pro days for both the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles.

About Chesnut's career at Syracuse

Chestnut debuted for the Orange in his freshman season of 2021 and was named as the runner-up for the ACC's Defensive Rookie of the Year. Following his sophomore season, Chestnut transferred to LSU where he battled through injuries and eventually redshirted for the Tigers. Chestnut then transferred back to Syracuse in 2023, becoming a significant contributor for the next three seasons.

The Camden, N.J. native finished his career with Orange playing in 49 games. He was a two-time All-ACC selection.

He had five interceptions with the Orange to go along with a touchdown and 17 pass breakups.

Performance at Syracuse's pro day

Chestnut did participate at the recent Syracuse Pro Day, which was held on Monday. Chestnut told Syracuse.com that despite battling through an injury he had a "good day". The senior said: "I’d just say I could do way better than what I did. But shoot, I had a good day, so I’m good with it.”

Difference between NFL Pro and College Pro Day

Chestnut should only expect slight differences between what happened at Syracuse and will happen with the Bills and Eagles. An NFL pro day consists of the same drills and tests seen at a college pro day (40-yard dash, height/weight measurements, cone drills) but an NFL pro day consists of multiple local or regionally-based college players to that respective city. Players at NFL Pro Days can range from Division I to Division III.

Recent Syracuse football NFL draft history

According to Pro Football Reference, Syracuse has had 233 players selected in the NFL draft since 1936. Guard Ed Jontos was the first Orange selected when the New York Giants drafted him in the fifth round.

In 2025, Syracuse had four players selected in the NFL Draft. Tight end Oronde Gadsen II was selected in the fifth round by the Los Angeles Chargers. Quarterback Kyle McCord was selected in the sixth round by the Philadelphia Eagles. Two players were selected in the seventh and final round: running back LeQuint Allen was taken by the Jacksonville Jaguars and defensive end Fadil Diggs by the New Orleans Saints.

If drafted, Chestnut will be the first defensive back drafted since Garrett Williams was drafted in 2023, in the third round by the Arizona Cardinals.
