Eric Devendorf was asked if he'd be interested in joining the coaching staff under new head coach Gerry McNamara.
While Syracuse hasn't officially had a press conference for Gerry McNamara yet, the hiring of him as the school's new men's basketball coach is done, per a recent report.
And with that, speculation has already started about who could potentially join his first coaching staff.
Former Syracuse players Ryan Blackwell and Arinze Onuaku have been on McNamara's staff at Siena and could be potential replacements for him in that program, but it's also possible both assistants follow McNamara to their alma mater.
And although he was not on McNamara's staff in the Capital Region, former Orange player Eric Devendorf's name has emerged as a potential candidate to fill an assistant coaching role.

Devendorf has been on the coaching staff before, serving as the assistant strength coach from 2016-18. Devendorf then joined the Detroit Mercy staff in 2018 as a special assistant. Over the past several seasons, he has served as a color commentator for ESPN's college basketball television coverage.
But though he's been out of coaching for a few years, CNY Central's Samantha Croston still asked Devendorf if he would consider joining McNamara's staff at SU. Devendorf responded by saying "Yeah, absolutely,"
Devendorf later went to his own social media and responded to the reaction by posting two separate tweets.
Love the passion in the community of Syracuse...grateful for the support with all that we do with foundation and hoops and also in the broadcasting world. When you put out great energy you see it back and that’s what we are going to keep doing!
He added:
Internet is a wild place lol….of course I would love to be on staff but that isn’t true right now. I’m excited for G Mac and company to get this thing back rolling!
Devendorf's past and present at Syracuse
A Bay City, Mich. native, Devendorf was a highly-coveted recruit coming out of high school at Oak Hill Academy. Oak Hill Academy was the same school that produced 2003 national championship players Carmelo Anthony and Billy Edelin.
Although he originally committed to Michigan State, Devendorf famously flipped his commitment to Syracuse and joined the Orange.
Devendorf played four seasons in Central New York. The 6'4'' guard averaged 14.5 points, 3.2 assists, and 1.2 steals for his career. McNamara and Devendorf were teammates for one season, the 2005-2006 squad that won the Big East conference championship.
