Was there an injury or not?

The Syracuse University men's basketball team lost for the sixth time in its last seven games on Saturday afternoon, falling against No. 18 Virginia on the road in Charlottesville, Va.

The 72-59 loss has the Orange at just 13-11 overall and 4-7 inside conference play. The program is on the verge of missing the NCAA Tournament for the fifth consecutive season and there are real questions about the future of head coach Adrian Autry.

Autry may have also brought a little heat on himself Saturday by benching Kiyan Anthony, who did not play a single minute in the loss.

The team's top bench scoring option, Anthony scored 10 points on Monday night against North Carolina.

As noted by Brent Axe of Syracuse.com, Autry said after the game that benching Anthony was a coach's decision and not about an injury concern.

The Anthony dilemma

A talented player, Anthony has done some very nice things offensively this season. He moves well around the court and has a good idea where he should be going on the floor. He plays at a slow pace and doesn't get sped up.

However, some have cited that slow pace as a problem, saying he's not quick or explosive enough. Furthermore, his thin frame makes him prone to tough defensive matchups. And he's shooting only 23 percent from three and 61 percent at the foul line to boot.

Some on social media have noted his general lack of efficiency on the offensive side of the ball.

However, the discussion about Anthony goes both ways. If he played more and got more consistent minutes, he'd likely to be able to find a better rhythm. It's hard to perform when you know your chances are limited. He could also be deferring to upperclassmen like JJ Starling, Nate Kingz and Naithan George.
