The former Orange big man was a participant in the weekend's nationwide event.
Former Syracuse big man William Kyle III represented the Orange in the national College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships in Indianapolis this weekend. This year's event took place at Hinkle Fieldhouse and featured the best dunkers, along with the best three-point shooters in both the men's and women's game.
How did Kyle finish?
Despite posting a dunk that gained nearly 90k views on social media, Kyle's impressive dunk, along with others, was not enough to get him the win.
Shaqir O' Neal from Sacramento State defeated Nico Ashley from Central Connecticut State in the finals.
What's next for Kyle?
Kyle's college career has come to an end after playing for three different schools in four seasons. The 6'10' Kyle played for South Dakota State in his freshman and sophomore seasons, followed by UCLA and then Syracuse. In his senior season for the Orange, Kyle played in all 32 games. A Naismith Defensive Player of the Year watchlist nominee, Kyle had 2.5 blocks per game. The senior also added 8.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and one steal per game.
Kyle has yet to appear on any national NBA mock drafts projections.
What's next for Syracuse basketball?
It's been active April for the Orange. Coach Gerry McNamara continues to add to his staff with the recent news of Ben Lee joining him. Lee served as an assistant on McNamara's staff the past two seasons at Siena. Syracuse will also be looking towards the transfer portal which officially opens Tuesday to add players to the 2026-2027 roster. Syracuse has already lost four players to the portal including the most recent announcement of point guard Naithan George.
What's next for the college basketball season?
The season officially ends Monday as UConn takes on Michigan in the national championship game. Tip off is set for 8:50 p.m. ET.
Syracuse has a history with both schools. The Orange and Huskies were Big East rivals before the schools went their separate ways with conference affiliations in 2013. Syracuse joined the ACC while UConn joined the American Athletic Conference. UConn rejoined the BIg East in 2020. Since re-joining, the Huskies have won two national titles ('23 and '24) and will compete for their third in four seasons.
Michigan will compete in their third national championship in the past 13 seasons. In 2013, the Wolverines defeated Syracuse in the Final Four. The Orange trailed by just two with under one minute to play. A controversial block/charge went against the Orange and eventually led to a Michigan victory. The Wolverines lost in the title game to Louisville. The school's other title game appearance was in 2018 when they lost to Villanova.
