Yahoo! Sports has gotten into the college fantasy market, and four Orange players make the cut.
The 2026 college football season officially kicks off in August, meaning we are just over a month away from action on the gridiron.
Whether you follow recruiting, attend home games, donate to NIL programs, or even wager on the matchups, college football fans find ways to feel connected to their favorite teams all year long.
One way in which the college landscape has yet to captivate fans? The fantasy football realm, which is dominated by the NFL. Well, earlier this year, Yahoo! Sports decided to dive into the fantasy college football game, giving players another way to engage with the sport.
As such, four Syracuse Orange football players made the Yahoo! rankings.
No. 172: Wide Receiver Cole Weaver
Weaver joins the Orange after spending the past two seasons as member of the Miami (Ohio) football program. In two seasons with the Redhawks, the junior wide out appeared in 20 games with 14 starts. In those contests the 6-foot-3 pass catcher hauled in 47 catches for 680 yards and two touchdowns.
No. 185: Wide Receiver Umari Hatcher
Hatcher was honored during the team's spring game with the Spring Offensive MVP Award. Hatcher entered the transfer portal this past December, but decided to return to Central New York for the 2026 season. Hatcher has totaled 797 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in his career.
Hatcher is likely to be one of the main targets of quarterback Steve Angeli this fall.
No 193: Running Back Ahmad Miller
After three seasons at Jackson State, Miller joins the program as a transfer. The 6-foot Miller missed all of the 2024 with an injury. Last season, Miller ran for over 1,000 yards and six touchdowns. Our own Brady Farkas believes Miller could be one of the biggest impact transfer players for the Orange this fall.
The Orange are looking to replace Yasin Willis' production from last season. Willis left the program via the transfer portal and signed with the Kansas Jayhawks.
No. 272: Quaterback Steve Angeli
The most surprising ranking on the list may be for quarterback Steve Angeli. Angeli did suffer an injury that ended his season after just for four games in 2025, but the Orange were 3-1 in the four games in which Angeli was the starter. This spring, Angeli practiced with the team, but did not play in the program's annual spring game.
The reason why Angeli's rankings is a bit surprising is because of the statistical production Fran Brown has had out of a quarterback who has played an entire season in his offense.
In 2024, Brown's first season as the team's head coach, quarterback Kyle McCord led the country in passing yards and ranked fifth in passing touchdowns. If Angeli is able to resemble those types of rankings in 2026, the junior signal caller will be able to exceed Yahoo!'s preseason ranking of being the 36th-best fantasy football quarterback in 2026.
What's next for the 2026 Orange?
The Orange are scheduled to open fall training camp in August. No official date or time has been announced by the school yet. Syracuse will host New Hampshire in their regular season opening game on Sept. 5.
