The Syracuse football team started the 2025 campaign at 3-1, but things were derailed when quarterback Steve Angeli was injured in that fourth game of the season.

Though the Orange held onto win after he exited a Sept. 20 matchup against Clemson, they lost eight straight games after that to finish at 3-9.

Rickie Collins, a transfer from LSU, struggled in his opportunity as the team's starter and head coach Fran Brown eventually gave reps to true freshmen Joseph Fillardi and Luke Carney.

The Orange offense really struggled to move the ball with any of those three quarterbacks, and the low point came in a 70-7 loss against Notre Dame on Nov. 22.

This season? Things should be much better.

First off, Angeli is back healthy. Assuming he stays healthy and plays to the level he was in 2025, Syracuse should have an excellent chance to make another bowl game, and perhaps win double-digit games like they did in 2024.

But if Angeli gets injured again, the Orange are better equipped to handle things at the quarterback position. One of the initiatives for Brown in the transfer portal was evidently to find experienced quarterbacks that have played a lot of meaningful football in their careers.

While Angeli figures to be the starter, there are capable options should Syracuse need them.

Odom comes to Syracuse with two years of eligibility after putting together a dynamite year at Kennesaw State. He threw for 2,594 yards and 19 touchdowns, also running for 347 yards. He completed 64.9 percent of his passes and also had eight interceptions.

Kennesaw State won 10 games and went 7-1 in Conference USA. They won the league title game over Jacksonville State.

The former top overall recruit in the country for the class of 2023, Nelson has played for three schools in three seasons.

He spent the 2023 season at Southern California, earning a redshirt after playing in just one game. He played three games in 2024 at Boise State, going 12-of-17 for 128 yards and an interception. And he played six games at UTEP in 2025, throwing to a 54.7 percent completion percentage with eight touchdowns and nine interceptions.

He also has two years of eligibility left for the Orange.

A Connecticut native, he'll come to Central New Year with two years of eligibility remaining.

He started 10 games for the Georgetown Hoyas in 2025, throwing for 187.1 yards per game and 11 total touchdowns. Not much of a runner, he only had four rushing attempts all season.

Georgetown went 6-6 at the FCS level.
