Sean Dorcellus is moving on, but where to?
Fans of Syracuse University athletics consume the action in many different ways. Some fans are able to attend the action on campus or inside the JMA Wireless Dome. Others are able to follow the team on traditional media platforms like television and radio broadcasts.
Recently, Orange fans have followed their favorite teams via the program social media channels on platforms like YouTube, Instagram, X and more.
If you follow any of the Syracuse University teams on those platforms, you have likely seen host Sean Dorcellus. After years of hosting across the social media sites, Dorcellus announced his departure from the school this week.
Who is Sean Dorcellus?
A New Jersey native, Dorcellus was hired by his alma mater to serve in this digital based role across Syracuse University athletics.
Some of the highlights of his work include interviews with legendary figures like Carmelo Anthony, Jim Boeheim and more. He often traveled to games, and also traveled to Springfield, Mass. last year for Anthony's Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame induction.
Early on Friday, Dorcellus shared on social media that he would be leaving Syracuse. Just hours later, he announced his next stops would be working with the Minnesota Timberwolves (NBA) and Minnesota Lynx (WNBA).
Where is Sean Dorcellus' next career stop?
Chief Strategy Officer of the Timberwolves and Lynx Kelly Laferriere said this about the hiring of Dorcellus:
"This role is about going beyond the game and giving our fans an authentic look inside our organization, our teams and our community. Sean will be an important part of how we tell those stories and create new ways for fans around the world to engage with the Wolves and Lynx.”
Dorcellus' role will include:
"Serving as a visible ambassador for the organization at games, community events, activations and other fan-facing experiences. He will have the opportunity to serve as an alternate sideline reporter for select Timberwolves games throughout the season."
Syracuse has yet to announce a replacement for Dorcellus's role, but it will certainly be hard to fill. He was everywhere, and he was excellent at it. A skilled interviewer and storyteller, he had a great way of connecting with the audience and viewers.
Syracuse University athletics teams in action this weekend
-The men's soccer season rolls on as they hope to grab their seventh win of the season. The Orange are on the road Friday night as they take on Notre Dame. Action on the pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
-After grabbing a 3-0 win on Friday afternoon against Virgina, the Orange women's field hockey heads on the road to take on Wake Forest on Sunday Sept. 27. Face off is set for 12:00 p.m. ET in Winston Salem, NC.
-The Syracuse football team is on a bye week for this weekend. The Orange will return to action on the first Saturday in October. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. ET when they take on the UConn Huskies in Connecticut. UConn is 2-1 this season and will take on Miami of Ohio on Saturday (3:30 p.m. ET) for Orange fans who want to get an early scout on.
