Robert Wright is headed to the Los Angeles Rams.

Robert Wright, who left the Syracuse football program in December of 2025, has accepted a prominent job with the NFL's Los Angeles Rams.

Per Thamel of ESPN on social media:

Sources: The LA Rams are set to hire Robert Wright as a defensive assistant. Wright is the former DC at Syracuse and Buffalo. In his first year at Syracuse, the Orange went 10-3 and defeated No. 6 Miami. Wright is a Mike Elko disciple with stops at Duke and Texas AM.

Wright spent the last two years at Syracuse, serving as a co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.

In addition to Duke and Texas A&M, he also has worked at Miami, Illinois and Buffalo.

Wright's departure is not the only turmoil on Fran Brown's staff this offseason.

Previous defensive coordinator Elijah Robinson was demoted and then left for Texas A&M and then quarterbacks coach Nunzio Campanile left to become the offensive coordinator at UConn. Brown also demoted or let go of other coaches while making several exciting hires including Vince Kehres (defensive coordinator), Sean Ryan (quarterbacks coach) and Juan Castillo (offensive line coach).

About Wright's chance with the Rams

It's a great opportunity, obviously. Sean McVay is one of the best head coaches in the NFL and the Rams just got to the NFC title game, losing to the eventual champion Seattle Seahawks.

How things are shaping up for the Orange in 2026

Syracuse is coming off a 3-9 season, but things are looking up in 2026. Starting quarterback Steve Angeli, who missed eight games with injury, will be back healthy and the team has also brought in several exciting players from the transfer portal.

The coaching hires, mixed with the fresh batch of talent, should give SU an opportunity to compete in the ACC, which has been down over the last few years. Powerhouse programs like Clemson and Florida State have struggled, though Miami is back on the upswing after getting to the national title game in 2025.

--The Syracuse University men's basketball team beat SMU 79-78 on Saturday thanks to a near buzzer-beater from senior guard Nate Kingz. The transfer from Oregon State had 13 points and continues to evolve as an offensive player. He spoke about it after the win.

Kiyan Anthony also had 13 points off the bench, which came just one week after he was benched entirely against Virginia.

--The SU men's lacrosse team defeated No. 1 Maryland on Friday night at the JMA Wireless Dome. It was the first win for the Orange over a No. 1 team since 2017 and ended an eight-game losing streak against the Terrapins. The Orange will be No. 1 in the new poll when it comes out on Monday.
