Could this recent transfer portal signing be the missing piece the Orange need next season?
Did Syracuse's recent signing put them in position to join rare program history in 2026-27?
Earlier this week, the Orange women's basketball team signed Sarah Rambus through the transfer portal.
Who is Sarah Rambus?
Rambus has spent the past three seasons as a member of the Oregon Ducks. Over the course of her career, Rambus has seen in action in 100 games. She played in 36 games this season, starting 17. She averaged 6.3 points and 2.4 rebounds per contest. The Michigan native has one year of eligibility of remaining in her collegiate career.
Rambus + Izoje = Top duo in ACC?
With Rambus checking in at 6-3, the combination of her and Uche Izoje could be one of the more fierce interior duos to defend in the ACC. Rambus' strength is in the low post, as her offense is focused on high percentage shots. Rambus has yet to make a three point field goal in her career. Uche Izoje was the ACC's Rookie of the Year award winner in 2025-26. The accolades have yet to stop pouring in Izoje.
Earlier this month, she was named as a WBAC All-America honorable mention selection.
The hope is that with Rambus and Izoje together, the Orange can reach the Sweet 16 at least, a feat only achieved one other time in program history (2016).
Orange history in NCAA tournament
Dating back to 1971-1972, Syracuse women's basketball has competed as an independent, a member of the Big East and now the ACC. The 2025-26 season marked the 14th time that the Orange played in the NCAA Tournament.
Syracuse had never won a game in the tournament until 2014, when it earned a No. 6 seed and won 59-53 against 11th-seeded Chattanooga.
Ten years ago is the only the time the Orange have won more than one game in a single NCAA tournament. That Orange squad won five consecutive games before losing in the national championship game to UConn.
A second trip to the Sweet 16 could not be accomplished this season: Syracuse defeated Iowa State in their opening round game before eventually losing to UConn in the round of 32.
