
A lot went right for the Syracuse football team in 2024, the first season of the coach Fran Brown era.
The Orange finished 10-3, with a 5-3 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference. They won four consecutive games to close the season, including a 52-35 win over Washington State in the Holiday Bowl. They were 6-1 at home.
And home is where they will be at noon ET on Saturday when they face UConn at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse.
The Orange will be looking for their first win of the season following a 45-26 loss to No. 24 Tennessee in the season opener on a neutral field in Atlanta.

Aug. 30 Syracuse vs. No. 24 Tennessee

- Meet the Opponent: Head coach Jim Mora is in his fourth season with the Huskies and coming off a 9-4 season. He has taken UConn to two bowl games in three years, and the Huskies won their first bowl game since 2009 last season when they beat North Carolina 27-14 in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl. UConn got off to a dominant 2025 start in Week 1, crushing Central Connecticut 59-13 while gaining 638 total yards.

- Meet the Opponent: Colgate, of the Patriot League, will travel about an hour northwest of its campus in Hamilton, N.Y., to meet the Orange. The FCS program finished 2-10 last season and got off to an 0-1 start to the season in its opener, a 42-39 loss to No. 22 Monmouth.
Sept. 20 — Syracuse at No. 8 Clemson

- Meet the Opponent: The Atlantic Coast Conference opener for the 2024 season sends the Orange to Death Valley. The two teams last met Sept. 30, 2023, with Clemson winning 31-14 for the Tigers’ sixth consecutive win in the series. Defending conference champion Clemson was named the favorite to repeat in the ACC preseason poll but then ranked No. 4, the Tigers were upset by then-No. 9 Florida State in Week 1, 17-10.

- Meet the Opponent: The Blue Devils are being quarterbacked this season by Darian Mensah, a transfer from Tulane brought in on a reported two-year, $8 million NIL deal. He impressed in his first Duke game, a 45-17 win against Elon on Aug. 28. He completed 27 of 34 passes for 389 yards and three touchdowns.
Oct. 4 — Syracuse at No. 17 SMU

- Meet the Opponent: SMU finished 11-3 in 2024 and qualified for the College Football Playoff but was knocked out in the first round. The Mustangs, ranked No. 16 in the preseason poll, started their 2025 season with a 42-13 drubbing of East Texas A&M.

Oct. 18 — Pitt at Syracuse

- Meet the Opponent: Pitt dominated FCS program Duquesne in Week 1, winning 61-9 despite the Dukes controlling the ball for nearly 11 more minutes. By the time the Panthers and Orange meet, Pitt will have faced three consecutive ACC opponents, and the Orange will have a good idea of the Panthers’ strengths and weaknesses.
Oct. 25 — Syracuse at Georgia Tech

- Meet the Opponent: Georgia Tech opened the season with a 27-20 win over Colorado of the Big 12, aiming to better its 7-6 record of each of the past two seasons. The Orange and the Yellow Jackets have met six times between 2001 and 2024, with Georgia Tech leading the series 4-2.
Oct. 31 — North Carolina at Syracuse

- Meet the Opponent: By the time these teams play, North Carolina will be seven games into the Bill Belichick era in Chapel Hill. By then, the Orange will have a good idea whether they have a trick or a treat in store for them on Halloween night.

- Meet the Opponent: Head coach Mario Cristobol is in his fourth season with the Hurricanes and saw improving results each of the past two campaigns. They ended 2024 with a 10-3 record and have clashed with the Orange 24 times since 1960, leading the series 16-8.

Nov. 22 — Syracuse at No. 9 Notre Dame

- Meet the Opponent: The Orange and the Irish first met in 1914, and Notre Dame has won eight times in 11 games. The Irish advanced to the College Football Playoff title game after the 2024 season, losing to Ohio State, and this season will show whether coach Marcus Freeman’s squad was a fluke or a forecast of things to come.

- Meet the Opponent: The Orange will be looking to feast on the Eagles over Thanksgiving weekend in their final game of the regular season. The teams have met a whopping 57 times since 1944, with Syracuse winning 33 times. Head coach Bill O’Brien led the Eagles to a 7-6 mark last season and their first weekly ranking in the Associated Press Top 25 call since 2017. They defeated FCS program Fordham 66-10 in Week 1.
