Multiple sources reported that Hodgson turned down an offer from the Orange to be the next head coach.

On Tuesday night, reports came out that South Florida basketball coach Bryan Hodgson turned down an opportunity to become the next basketball coach at Syracuse.

The Orange fired Adrian Autry after a 15-17 season that culminated in a fifth consecutive year missing the NCAA Tournament.

Per Jeff Goodman of the Field of 68 on social media:

South Florida head coach Bryan Hodgson has turned down the Syracuse job, source told @thefieldof68. It’s likely that Hodgson will decide between Providence and staying with the Bulls - who have put together a lucrative financial package similar to what Josh Schertz received at Saint Louis in an attempt to get him to stay in Tampa.

Syracuse fans not happy with the news

Many Syracuse fans and alumni have voiced their displeasure with the program following the news.

National sports radio host Damon Amendolara said on X:

This is obviously a disaster for Syracuse. The available NIL cash just doesn’t match the expectations of the program these days.

Amendolara shared more of his frustration on YouTube later in the day

Former Syracuse radio host Steve Neikam wrote:

Whose hyped for 3-5 more years of missing the Tournament and listening to Jim Boeheim complain that it’s because they didn't get enough donations after the school announced to everyone they don’t care about winning?

Fans like Bobby wrote on X: Man, I was so hyped for Hodgson .. wtf ??

However, not all fans are crushed at this news:

Orange Cuse FB shared his thoughts on X and expressed that Hodgson may not be the perfect fit.

People acting like the world is ending because Cuse didn’t hire Hodgson is hilarious.

Do some digging and you’d realize he’s the not the perfect candidate.

Some skeptical of "the offer"

Some Syracuse reporters (including myself) are still skeptical of the offer report from Goodman.  Some details, including how much the contract was worth, the length of the contract and NIL conversations have still remained unanswered.

Mike McAllister of 247 Sports joined ESPN Syracuse radio Wednesday and noted that the "timing of it seems a bit odd"

Hodgson's future still to be determined

Hodgson's next job could still be with his current team. The Bulls will enter the NCAA tournament as a No. 11 seed and will tip-off against sixth-seeded Louisville in Buffalo on Thursday in the Round of 64.

Providence, who is also in the mix for Hodgson, will not compete in a postseason tournament. The Friars, like Syracuse, are searching for a replacement at head coach. Providence fired their coach Kim English earlier this month.

What's next for SU?

If Hodgson is truly out the running, we examined the four remaining (known) candidates, with our own Brady Farkas stating his choice.
