The Orange will take on the Fighting Irish on Saturday night.

After dropping four consecutive games inside Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play, the Syracuse University men's basketball team has entered 'must-win' territory on Saturday night against Notre Dame.

The results of the game may not ultimately matter in terms of a possible NCAA Tournament berth, and they may not matter in terms of ultimately saving Adrian Autry's job, but a win would go a long way toward quelling the frustrations of the fan base and inspiring a locker room full of players.

After all, this is the most winnable game on the SU schedule for nearly two weeks.

Syracuse enters play at 12-9 overall and 3-5 in conference play, while the Irish enter at 11-10 and 2-6. ESPN's matchup predictor gives Syracuse a 66 percent chance to win. After this? Battles with ranked North Carolina and ranked Virginia, both on the road. SU will surely be underdogs in both of those contests.

If Syracuse doesn't win this game, they'll be staring down the reality of a possible seven-game league losing streak.

What to know about Notre Dame

--Notre Dame is averaging 74 ppg, just lower than SU's 75.3

--They allow 71.5 ppg, just more than SU's 69.9

--Freshman Jalen Haralson leads the team in scoring at 15.0 ppg. He's had double-figures in four of the last five games.

About Notre Dame against common opponents

--Notre Dame lost to Houston by 10, while Syracuse lost against the Cougars in overtime.

--Both teams lost to Clemson, Miami and Virginia Tech inside ACC play. Notre Dame beat Boston College by four. Syracuse lost to the Eagles by eight in overtime.

--The only wins in the league for ND are BC and Stanford. Syracuse has beaten Georgia Tech, Florida State and Pitt.
