Congratulations are in order for Syracuse alum and prominent ESPN broadcaster Sean McDonough, who was honored with a major award on Thursday.
Veteran ESPN PxP Sean McDonough got quite the surprise to start his 2026, as our crew shared that he's been named the 2025 @NSMAsportsmedia National Sportscaster of the Year
McDonough is broadcasting the College Football Playoff game between Ole Miss and Georgia on Thursday night and was made aware of the award on Thursday morning.
Within the announcement video, an emotional McDonough said there was a lot going through his mind. And he said "to have your peers feel that way about you, especially at this point in my life and career, wow."
A 1984 graduate of Syracuse, he's a 2014 inductee of the WAER Hall of Fame, McDonough is also a Marty Glickman Award winner. And in 2019, he got the George Arents Award, which is the highest honor to given to an SU alum.
In addition to his SU ties, he's been the voice of the Boston Red Sox on NESN and WEEI, and he worked at CBS Sports for a decade, calling college football and Major League Baseball. He's also broadcast grand slam tennis, the NCAA Tournament in men's basketball and the winter Olympics.
He serves as a national college football, basketball, golf, and NHL broadcaster for ESPN and ABC now.
