Bryan Blair had been active on social media and delivered on his efforts.
The Syracuse Orange football team (4-4) faces a big game on Saturday afternoon (noon ET) against Clemson at the JMA Wireless Dome. Coming off two consecutive wins against North Carolina and SMU, the Orange have a chance to get over .500 again if they can beat the Tigers for the second consecutive year.
Even further beyond that, a win here would go a long way toward getting SU bowl-eligible for the second time in three years.
New athletic director Bryan Blair has been vocal about trying to turn the JMA Wireless Dome into a homefield advantage for Syracuse, and he's been adamant about trying to get students to come - and participate - in the games.
This week features Blair's most public display of creativity in terms of trying to get fans to attend the final two home football games of the season.
This week's social media conversations
On Tuesday, Blair had an exchange with X user @TheOrangeCuse who said:
"you want students in there? 4 beers for 4 dollars. Promo of the year!"
Blair responded and said "Let's make this happen! Wil be in touch once I nail down logistics and "permissibility" Thank you.
And on Thursday, Blair took to social media to share the resolution:
"You asked. We delivered! $4 Meier's Creek 16 oz beers in Miron Victory Court on Saturday! I tried for cheaper, students only & more than two per person…but apparently NY and our campus have a few rules about these things
Two per person (21+). Huge thanks to @LallyFoundation, @FeldmeierEquipm and @Meiers_Creek for making it happen! Be there. Be LOUD!"
Alright, so it's not exactly what the original user asked for, but it's Blair listening to the fanbase, taking initiative and doing what he can to make Syracuse a solid game day experience.
"Slime Bryan" student ticket offer
But, it's not just the alcohol promotion that Blair is hoping will get students in the seats. He's also got the "Slime Bryan" offer:
Syracuse posted the following on X:
"STUDENTS - NEED that Loud House rocking Saturday
Get there early. Be Loud. And if we have 3,000 student scans before kickoff, we’re sliming @BtotheBlair!! Still need tickets? Take advantage of our $20 student special"
Why Blair's efforts have been a massive success already
In less than 12 months as athletic director, Blair has been responsive to fans via social media and in public appearances. The push in press conferences to make the in-game experience a vital part of Syracuse University athletics has been a strength of Blair's first year at the job.
If "The Loud House" is loud and filled with fans on Saturday, and the Orange win again, the results could have an influence on future fan engagement and crowd attendance.
What does the rest of the Syracuse Orange football schedule look like?
The Orange will head to Raleigh, N.C. to take on the North Carolina State Wolfpack at noon ET on Nov. 14. The road stretch continues as the Orange head to Chestnut Hill, Mass. to play the Boston College Eagles on Nov. 21.
The regular season finale is scheduled for Nov. 28 on Senior Day when the Orange host the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
