The Orange had the entire bye week to think about how to handle the Steve Angeli-Amari Odom conversation.
Speaking on Monday, Syracuse Orange football coach Fran Brown outlined the team's plans at quarterback for Saturday's game against the UConn Huskies (noon ET).
The Orange plan to start Steve Angeli again in that contest, but Brown says that we will see Amari Odom, who played in relief of Angeli against Pitt two weeks ago.
The Orange (1-2) were on a bye week this past week and had time to evaluate the situation.
Here's what you need to know.
The Steve Angeli file
A transfer from Notre Dame who came to Syracuse in 2025, Angeli has played in 28 games over parts of five collegiate seasons. He earned his first real starting chance with the Orange, leading them to a 3-1 record before tearing his Achilles in the fourth game of the 2025 season.
He showed incredible poise in those games, going 98-for-156 (63 percent) with 10 touchdowns and two interceptions.
Syracuse lost the final eight games of 2025 after his injury, underscoring his importance to the roster. His return in 2026 was a reason for optimism for SU fans, but he's struggled through three games.

Charles LeClaire-Imagn ImagesSo far, he's 57-for-104 (55 percent) for 731 yards and four touchdowns, but he already has five interceptions, including several key second-half picks in losses to Cal and Pitt.
The positive for him is that he knows the offense, the personnel and the competition level. He's done it before with a degree of success, and now he's had an extra week to get healthier and evaluate his film.
The negative is that he's not particularly mobile, and that is a problem behind an offensive line that hasn't played to its size yet.
The Amari Odom file
In the wake of Angeli's injury and the failure that followed, Brown recognized the importance of the backup quarterback position, and he went out and got Odom, who has played at both Wofford and Kennesaw State.
He threw for 2,594 yards and 19 touchdowns last season, also running for 347 yards. He completed 64.9 percent of his passes and also had eight interceptions.
Kennesaw State won 10 games and went 7-1 in Conference USA. They won the league title game over Jacksonville State.
Odom looked in command of the offense during his appearance against Pitt, though it's hard to fully evaluate given that the game was out of mostly hand when he got into it. Trailing 27-10, Odom went 7-of-7 for 44 yards. He also ran for two and led the Orange to a field goal.
