This is the last week of training camp before we officially enter game week!
The Syracuse football program begins its final week of training camp on Monday before transitioning to game week preparation on Aug. 31.
It's been a long road to get to this point, as the Orange are looking to bounce back from a difficult 3-9 campaign in 2025.
Since last season ended, Syracuse has seen several changes on its coaching staff, has navigated the transfer portal, dealt with the final recruiting windows, had spring ball and began training camp. While the media isn't particularly confident in what the Orange can do, I have a confidence that Syracuse can win enough games to get bowl eligible after a year off.
As the final week of camp begins, there are some questions we want answered and some storylines we want to watch unfold.
Do we get a sense on who QB2 is?
It's clear that the returning Steve Angeli is the starting quarterback for the Orange - as he should be - but as we saw in 2025, the backup quarterback position is extremely important to the roster. Syracuse lost all eight games it played with a backup quarterback last season in the wake of Angeli's torn Achilles. They were 3-1 with him.
The Orange have worked hard to build solid depth at the position, bringing in Amari Odom from Kennesaw State, Malachi Nelson from UTEP and Danny Lauter from Georgetown, but who is going to stand out above the rest and earn the valuable QB2 spot?
We may not know until we see an official depth chart for Week 1, but the curiosity is still there.

Pandora's Box is open when it comes to recently departed seniors coming back to college for a fifth year of eligibility, and the NCAA is working hard to rail against it.
Wide receiver Justus Ross-Simmons was back at practice last week, thinking he had been granted a fifth year, only for a recent court ruling to make him ineligible.
Eventually, we're going to get a blanket answer, you would think. But until then, the Orange don't know exactly what is going to happen with their wide receiver room. And with Calvin Russell out - maybe for the season - it's an important question to get answered.
