Calvin Russell, a wide receiver out of Florida, has delayed his official signing day commitment to the Orange.

1:30 p.m. ET: Justin Giangrande, who works with NETWORK Sports Marketing Agency, says that Russell remains committed to Syracuse and that he hopes to fully clarity on his decision by Friday.

@14gump_ has decided to push back signing this morning -as he needed a more time to pray the final decision. He absolutely loves @FranBrownCuse and is committed to @CuseFootball but he just wants to make sure he is 100% certain with this decision before signing by EOD Friday

11:50 a.m. ET: In a major development, the Syracuse University football team has failed to secure an official commitment from Florida high school wide receiver Calvin Russell, who is one of the team's top recruits.

Speaking at Miami Northwestern High School, Russell said the last three or four days have been hard and he will not be signing at this time.

Previous reports indicated that Miami and Michigan were after him, but it's unclear if they are officially in the picture for his services now. He reportedly chose Syracuse over Michigan, Florida State and Oregon when he verbally committed.

    About Russell

One of the top receiver recruits in the country, Russell is also expected to play college basketball. CBS News reported in August that he had 55 scholarship offers for football and 13 more for basketball.

If he officially ends up committing to the Orange eventually, he will be the highest-rated recruit in program history, according to ESPN.

However, at the moment things don't look good.

    About the Syracuse program

The Orange just wrapped up a 3-9 season with a 34-12 loss to Boston College on Saturday. It's been a tumultuous few days since then, as the Orange have fired multiple coaches and re-assigned previous defensive coordinator Elijah Robinson.

We covered those stories extensively here.

    About the impact on basketball

If Russell was truly going to play basketball for the Orange as well, it's a giant loss for Adrian Autry's team also. Standing 6-feet-6 inches, Russell could have been a useful wing player for a group that has had plenty of success with lengthy wing players already this season. Kiyan Anthony and Sadiq White Jr. fit that body type, and they both play significant roles on this team.

The Orange are currently 5-3 and coming off a 62-60 win over No. 13 Tennessee on Tuesday night in the ACC-SEC Challenge.

Senior Nate Kingz led the way with 19 points while JJ Starling had 12 and William Kyle III had 10.

    Also on campus

The Syracuse women's hoop team is 6-1 on the young season, and they'll play in their own ACC-SEC challenge on Wednesday when they host Auburn at 5 p.m. ET.

After that? They'll begin ACC play on Sunday at SMU

The Syracuse men will be off until Dec. 11 when they host St. Joseph's at 9 p.m. ET. We will have on-site coverage for that game.
