One of the most interesting looks in Orange history will be unveiled this weekend as the Orange take on SMU.
This Saturday, the Syracuse Orange football team will host the SMU Mustangs inside the JMA Wireless Dome. Kickoff is set for noon ET.
The most recent edition of the AP poll ranks SMU at 19.
Syracuse is now 3-4 and is coming off a thrilling 1-point win against North Carolina. The 31-30 victory snapped an 11-game losing streak inside ACC play. It was also the first FBS win against a non-UConn team in more than a calendar year.
Most sportsbooks list Syracuse as a 9.5-point underdog against the Mustangs. Like most spreads, the line will likely continue to move, especially with potential injuries being announced as the week inches closer to Saturday's kickoff.
This will mark the second consecutive season that Syracuse will host a home game on Halloween. Last season, on a Friday night, the Orange lost to North Carolina. It will be interesting to see how the holiday impacts the attendance, especially considering kickoff is before trick-or-treating takes place.
But those who are in attendance will get a chance to see one of the most unique looks in program history. Here's what you need to know:
What will Syracuse football be wearing against SMU on Halloween?
On Monday, the team's official X profile shared this about Saturday's uniform combination
"Hall of Fame lids @TheOttoOrange We will debut helmets featuring our Hall of Fame mascot Otto for the FIRST TIME ever this Saturday, October 31st!"
How have fans responded to the debut of 'Otto the Orange' on the helmet?
As of Monday, the fan reaction has been mixed via social media platforms like X.
Fans like Brian were supportive of the look saying:
"Permanent. Easiest call of all time."
Others like Holden were not as thrilled saying:
"hope this is satire. Nothing says a strong, dominating, rugged football team like an orange smiling cartoon puff ball on their helmets."
Our overall thoughts on the look?
I like it.
It makes sense to use something that is recognizable to a school's fanbase or area when designing a team's uniform combination.
'Otto the Orange' is a nationally recognized mascot and his usage on the helmet already has fans noticing and mentioning the Orange football program. The likelihood of the combination being used again probably depends on how well the team performs. If Syracuse is able to upset SMU, it's very possible that we could see the Otto helmet come back into play.
After all, that would signify some real good fortune.
