Elijah Kimble's actions during a recent football game may have some fans concerned about his future in Central New York.
The 2026 Syracuse football team is still in search of its first Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) win of the season. The Orange hope to grab that this Saturday when they travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels.. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
While the 2026 season still has some games left to play, college fans are always perpetually excited about what lies ahead.
One of the reasons for the excitement among Syracuse fans is the expected arrival of Elijah Kimble. Kimble, a running back, is the No. 1 ranked recruit in New York State high school football for the Class of 2027. Earlier this season, Kimble became the career rushing leader in Western New York High School football history.
Despite his success, a report from this last weekend involving Kimble's action during a recent may have raised some future concerns about the top-tier recruit.
What happened during the CBA-Canisius football game involving Elijah Kimble?
Christian Brothers Academy of Syracuse defeated the Kimble-led Canisius team 31-7 on Oct. 17.
According to a subscriber exclusive story from Syracuse.com, the CBA coaches game planned not just around Kimble's strengths as a running back, but also set a gameplan to mentally frustrate the talented ball carrier.
According to writer Connor Pignatello, Kimble was involved in numerous on-field incidents and had multiple outbursts. Pignatello noted many negative qualities of Kimble's demeanor and attitude including:
-"Kimble tended to head straight to the bench instead of standing with his teammates on the sideline. His teammates didn’t always celebrate with him when he scored."
-"As Kimble walked to his sideline, he threw his helmet."
-"Kimble took his helmet off before getting up and taking a few steps toward a group of CBA defenders, yelling at them. A teammate held him back. Kimble left the field with a trainer and did not return."
-"Kimble, 17, drew two personal fouls, left the game before the final whistle and shoved an opponent in the handshake line."
Should Syracuse football fans be concerned about the report on Kimble?
Yes. While athletes at any level of competition can face frustrating matchups, Kimble's lack of maturity in these moments looks to be something the highly-touted running back needs to improve on in the next several months.
Kimble's impact on the 2027 Orange roster has yet to be determined. The step up in competition can serve as a challenging period for any first-year collegiate athlete, even those with high expectations. Orange fans should hope that Kimble is able to channel his incredible athletic skill set and improve on his maturity as he joins the roster in 2027.
And, it should also be noted: Syracuse is one of the most heavily penalized teams in the nation right now. Maturity and penalties are something SU already needs to improve, and they can't be adding more players who bring those same problems into the fold.
What's next for Kimble?
Kimble and his teammates at Canisius have two more regular season game scheduled. Whenever the season ends for the Crusaders, Kimble will then move on to signing with the Orange. The national signing day early signing period takes place between Dec 2-Dec.4. The regular signing period
