The Orange take on the Tigers Saturday afternoon in Central New York after winning two straight games.
The Syracuse Orange football team is riding a two-game ACC winning streak, a feat that has not been accomplished since 2024. On Saturday, the Orange hope to win their third consecutive ACC game in one season, a feat that has not been completed since 2022. Syracuse will host the Clemson Tigers at n ET inside the JMA Wireless Dome. Here's what you need to know before this weekend's contest.
Updates on the quarterback position
Quarterback Steve Angeli is expected to start for the Orange on Saturday afternoon. Angeli has helped lead Syracuse to three of its four victories this season. Amari Odom started in the team's overtime win against UConn earlier this season, but he is out for the year with a shoulder injury.
Angeli is one of three quarterbacks who has appear on this week's injury report. Odom has obviously been ruled out while third-string quarterback Malachi Nelson has been listed as doubtful after undergoing ankle surgery following a loss to Louisville.
Georgetown transfer Danny Lauter is likely to be the second-string quarterback behind Angeli on Saturday. Lauter has seen action in two games this season, the most recent at home against Louisville. In the fourth quarter, Lauter checked in for Nelson for what could have served as the game-winning drive for Syracuse, however they were stopped and Syracuse lost 34-26.
History of the series
Syracuse has been able to defeat Clemson twice since 2017. The Orange won 34-21 in 2025, even despite Angeli suffering a torn Achilles late in the contest. In 2017, when Clemson was ranked as the No. 2 team in the country, Syracuse defeated the Tigers on a Friday night in the JMA Wireless Dome, 27-24.
Clemson leads the overall series with a 10-3 record. The only other win for the Orange came in schools' first matchup: The 1995 Gator Bowl in which Syracuse won 41-0.
The Orange will enter Saturday as a three-point underdog.
Scouting the Tigers
Clemson sits at 5-3 on the season, with two of the three losses coming in ACC play.
After being blown out 51-10 by the LSU Tigers in Week 1, Clemson went on to win three straight games before suffering their two conference defeats. Clemson fell to Miami on the road 41-13 and to Virginia Tech 20-16.
The Tigers defeated the Florida State Seminoles 36-24 in its most recent contest. A win against the Orange could improve the chances of Clemson potentially playing in December's ACC conference championship game.
What does the rest of the Syracuse Orange football schedule look like?
The Orange will head to Raleigh, N.C. to take on the North Carolina State Wolfpack at noon ET on Nov. 14. The road stretch continues as the Orange head to Chestnut Hill, Mass. to play the Boston College Eagles on Nov. 21.
The regular season finale is scheduled for Nov. 28 on Senior Day when the Orange host the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. If the Orange win two of their remaining four games, a bowl game invitation is likely to follow.
